damage control

Ok, China.

This is weird. With covid we got the nonstop propaganda footage of hazmat suits and people falling out into the streets, and now they want a media blackout on the Maui damage? Give me a break. This has absolutely nothing to do with cultural sensitivity. There definitely needs to be human decency when it comes to grieving people and cultural customs, but this is different. This is about power and control and censorship.

Supposedly there are still almost 1000 people missing. If this is true I cannot imagine being a family member of a missing person. I would want the media covering this story and getting attention to it, not covering it up. (But I do also want to acknowledge that maybe there is some ancient Hawaiian custom that I don't know. I certainly know they aren't like the Amish and taking pictures is not the issue here.)

Just like how we were told all the hospitals were full and the morgues were overflowing (which might be true about the morgues, because how many dead bodies can a funeral home hold?) But if you asked anyone you knew who worked at the hospital, they would tell you it was no busier than normal. Plus, all the nurses seemed to have enough time to coordinate dances. Maybe they just don't want any Maui footage before they can coordinate a tiki god flash mob. (That was dripping with sarcasm, if you couldn't tell.)

You know, you can turn on regular news at any given time and see some extremely graphic stories. They used to give a sensitivity warning for graphic content, but not anymore. And yet they want to silence the people of Maui from telling their stories and sharing their personal footage? Since when has the media cared one single iota about someone's privacy? Don't worry about FEMA though. They are staying in luxury $1000/night five star hotels. I'd imagine there are some regular hotels and Air bnbs that might be a little more financially responsible, but whatever.

Fun fact: I've never seen this movie or the Sound of Music either.

Build back better, am I right? No, you are WRONG.
