soar like bald eagle, roll like dung beetle

I'm reading in Micah at the moment. Trying to finish up these prophets before the end of the year. Even though this will be the 13th time I've read the entire bible (the real Neverending Story,) there is always something new popping out to me. The more I learn about ancient history and what the people at the time believed, the more these prophets make sense and the story comes alive right before my eyes in ways that it hasn't before.

"Enlarge your baldness like an eagle, for they shall go from you into captivity." Micah 1:16

Bald eagle, huh? Aren't those native to North America? (I only just learned two days ago that the bald eagle was NEVER our national bird. Isn't that crazy?) Let me do a Google.

Why yes, but then why would these bald eagles be in Israel and Assyria?

Most scarabs (especially the Rainbow Scarab that is usually featured in Egyptian artifacts) are native to North America as well. Only the typical 'black beetle' types are native to Africa. Maybe it has something to do with the next verses being factual and not some kind of literary poetry.

"Look! The Lord is coming from his dwelling place; he comes down and treads on the heights of the earth. The mountains melt beneath him and the valleys split apart, like wax before the fire, like water rushing down a slope." Micah 1:3-4

The places are all different now. We think the land mass of modern day Israel means one thing, when it means something completely different. We think America doesn't have an ancient past, when it was something entirely different.

"I will bless those who bless you, and curse those who curse you."

Just make sure you don't curse the wrong guys. Cursing no one is probably the best choice here.
