pride blocks blessings

(I am copying and pasting this directly from reddit because after I read it I wanted to share it with everyone I know.)

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep His commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. (Ecc 12:13-14)

The fear of YHWH is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way. (Prov 8:13)

We should seek to be disciplined, improve ourselves, and have self-respect, all while hating pride. Pride is subtle, multifaceted and more than simply being arrogant. To desire respect from other people and care about what they say or think of us is to have pride.

Only by pride comes contention. (Prov 13:10)

Any time we feel bitterness inside, this is a signal that we have pride. To destroy pride we need to spend a lot of time in isolation, meditating on how truly worthless and self-destructive it is to care of what others think or say about us. We need to understand that Satan has manufactured this world to promote pride at every corner, because he wants us to fall with him.

Pride goes before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. (Prov 16:18)

And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, who deceives the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. (Rev 12:9)

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? I YHWH search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings. (Jer 17:9-10)

God knows our hearts much better than we do. We may think we are humble, but God knows where hidden pride is dwelling. God will allow us to hear and see things that trigger us, in order to give us the opportunity to resist bitterness, remain calm, self-reflect, and starve out pride. It is important that we are ready to do this at all times. If we instead choose to bask in bitterness and haughtiness, we will eventually be destroyed. When we diligently seek to remove pride from our thoughts and become truly humble, true blessings will come.

Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honor is humility. (Prov 18:12)

Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to YHWH: though hand join in hand, he will not be unpunished. (Prov 16:5)

Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil. (Ecc 8:11)

He that has no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls. (Prov 25:28)

For YHWH will be your confidence, and will keep your foot from being taken. (Prov 3:26)
